In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX, Big K.R.I.T. talked about what he has been up to and the plans he has lined up since his April release, King Remembered In Time. He reveals that his upcoming album will be a lot more soulful and will contain less samples than he previous releases. He also said that he has been working with more producers this time around like Chad Hugo, Terrace Martin, and DJ Dahi just to name a few. K.R.I.T. also hopes to work with Andre 3000 in the near future since there have been reports that Andre 3000 is planning a solo album. Check out a excerpt of the interview below:
DX: You said you’re going in a different direction than what you’ve done in the past. How would you categorize that direction that you’re going into?
Big K.R.I.T.: It’s just really embracing Soul from a different perspective and not really sampling as much. [We’re] creating records that sound like samples, and I’m using my voice more as an instrument than anything now. Then we’re spending an enormous amount of time on making sure that the mix, EQ, the dynamics, the vibe and everything is all the way right…the sequence. All of that is extremely important to me now. It’s great, because now that I’m not producing all of this, I can spend as much time as I want on those things.

Though I’m not a fan of what TMZ does, occasionally, they do get some funny shit that don’t make people look bad. While out in New York, one of TMZ’s camera guys caught up with Spitta to chat for a bit. Near the end of the interview, Curren$y admits that he got real high and completely missed Wiz Khalifa’s wedding, which was held over this past weekend. Of course, it wasn’t intentional and it’s all love from Spitta so I just wanted to share this video with you guys for shits and giggles.
Odd Future have stepped up from their independent shit since they pumped out 2 major label albums just this year alone. Tyler came first with Wolf to rave reviews, and yesterday, Earl Sweatshirt followed it up with Doris. The youngest member in Odd Future isn’t the same kid that we use to see in the kitchen drinking fucked up concoctions with his friends. Since the release of his “EARL” video and the release of Doris, he’s gone from being in somewhat of a rehab in Samoa to coming back home and dealing with his new-found fame, and now performing on Jimmy Fallon’s show. Recently, he’s sat down with GQ to talk about everything that’s been going on for the past two years like what his living conditions were in Samoa, his 19th birthday, his girlfriend, new album, and more in this in-depth interview. Check out an excerpt below:
Was there a moment before leaving where things got so bad that you realized you needed to go?
I didn’t even give a fuck. I was so heated when I went. And I was heated right after I went. And for like a year. I don’t know if there was a moment when I realized shit was best for me, but my mom was just like – I was just fighting her back and forth all night on why the “Free Earl” shit wasn’t fucked up or whatever. Every week, you’d meet with the therapist and talk to your parents. She was telling me she was afraid to go to work and she was having trouble getting dressed in the morning – to like get up and go to work and shit. She just didn’t know what to do. I guess it’s just one of those things where the line is drawn. You get to stand on either side of it. That was a fucked-up feeling.
