“I am thrilled to be working with Q-Tip once again,” said Mr. Weiss, who helmed the artist’s releases on Jive Records in the 1990s as a member of A Tribe Called Quest. “He is a respected voice in the music community as shown by his acclaimed solo albums and countless contributions to the work of other artists. His creativity continues to surpass all boundaries of hip-hop, R&B, pop, and jazz. We welcome Q-Tip to the G.O.O.D. Music / Island Def Jam family.”
“I’m excited to be a part of the great iconic Def Jam label,” said Q-Tip. “I’m humbled to be a part of such a storied history. To reconnect with Barry Weiss is a great thing. As far as G.O.O.D. Music, I’m excited to solidify my working relationship with Kanye, and I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead in our partnership. I will do my best to present the most cutting edge music I can.”
Q-Tip has been credited as a producer on Kanye West’s revered “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” as well as West’s much-anticipated 2011 collaboration with Jay-Z, “Watch the Throne.” Q-Tip has been in the studio working with Rico Love, Marsha Ambrosius, Kendrick Lamar, and Fiona Apple. He also produced songs on the just-released fourth solo album by bassist/vocalist Esperanza Spalding.
Q-Tip along with former co-members of hip-hop collective A Tribe Called Quest produced and was heavily involved with the documentary, “Beats, Rhymes, and Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest,” released in July 2011. Viewers were able to revisit the group’s rise to prominence and glimpse the start of Q-Tip’s solo career. Fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the Q-Tip story leading up to the 2013 release of THE LAST ZULU.
Congrats to Q-Tip on being the latest signee to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label. Let’s hope he actually puts in some work unlike Mos Def who signed and we haven’t heard much from except a couple freestyles and a outrageous name change.
With his new record, The Stoned Immaculate, dropping in June, Curren$y ambled into the Complex offices to give the staff a taste of the new record—look for the album preview next month. In the meantime here’s an excerpt from the interview, where the sharp spitter lists his favorite things and describes his 4/20 plans.
Complex: When did you get to New York?
Curren$y: I got here yesterday. I miss New York, I ain’t been up in a minute, because I’m working. But I like to come out here, go to Bubby’s (120 Hudson St.), eat and chill.
Do you always go to Bubby’s when you visit?
Yeah. Flight Club is my favorite spot in the city, but I always stop at the Bubby’s in Tribeca. I’ll get the macaroni and cheese and fried chicken. Or sometimes the chicken and waffles. Plus cheese grits or shrimp and grits. The owner is good with me ’cause I mentioned Bubby’s lemonade in a song. [Ed. Note—The song is "Roasted," from Pilot Talk.] Somebody played the track for him, and one day, while I was eating there, he approached me like, “Your money’s no good here—forever. Whoever you’re with, just do whatever you want!” That was tight.
When you’re smoking, are there foods your always crave?
Nope. I get tired of stuff. Once I find a thing that I like, I’ll eat that shit everyday for weeks. ”Whoa, I never had Chick-fil-A before,” and then it’s bang bang bang bang bang. Then it’s, “Please, no Chick-fil-A.” Then I’m on to Taco Bell or whatever the new thing in my mind is.
And where is your head at right now?
Well, before I got here, I ate at Steak ‘n Shake. My homeboy used to work at one in Orlando when I was in high school, so we used to kill that all day long.
And even now, Steak ‘n Shake has endured…
Steak ‘n Shake, and—I don’t know—Hershey’s Cookies n’ Creme bars have maintained their position of importance in my life, right below my parents and my Chevys.
Do you have plans for 4/20?
I got a concert in New Orleans. I always do one on 4/20 in my city, and it’s always a big deal. My 4/20 rituals are that and staying hydrated. Drink some water—it’s important.

Here is the art work for Curren$y’s next album The Stoned Immaculate which is set to be released under Warner Bros. Earlier today he dropped the track he collabed with Wale on, so expect some big names on the album; feature and production wise.
Snoop reveals the cover art for his latest project, the Stoners EP. Stoners EP is set to drop on 4/20.
After Cudi dropped his WZRD album, he went on a Twitter rant about how his weak ass major label didn’t have faith in the project because they under shipped it (only 55k worth of physical copies to be exact). He also clarifies why there won’t be a Man On The Moon III until 2014 but does confirm that we will definitely hear him rap this year.
Complex has an article about Young Guru who lets us know 15 things we didn’t know about Jay-Z. Being that I personally think Jay-Z is the best rapper ever, I thought this was a dope article and wanted to share it. Here’s an excerpt from it where he speaks on how LA Reid rushed Jay-Z to release Kingdom Come:
“I’m like, ‘We’re not ready. I have some songs but it’s not done and he’s in Africa.’ They’re like ‘If this shit doesn’t come out, people are getting fired. I can’t pay my bills, this record has to come out at this time.’ “I’m begging, ‘Can I please push this back? He’s in Africa’ and they’re like, ‘Alright get on a plane.’ I ended up meeting Jay in Taipei, Taiwan and we didn’t really get to record until we got to Australia. But it’s like, you’re in the middle of a world tour doing soccer arenas that hold 60,000, to 100,000 people.

In a couple days, Wiz’s new mixtape will drop in which he says he will be returning to his Kush and Orange Juice formula. Well here is the cover for that forthcoming mixtape that we’re all anticipating for.
Nemo Hoes brings on Special Guest Da vince Tha Dogg for season 3 episode 7 o GGN News. Snoop also premiers the video for Stoner’s Anthem.
Spitta and the Jets will be embarking on a 48 stop tour across the country that will kick off in Houston next month and will end in Orlando. Seems like our state is the last spot the Jets will hit and even though it seems like forever from now, it’ll still be one of the best shows this year. Curren$y concerts have never disappointed me once. Tickets will go on sale for all cities this Saturday on DopeEnt.com, so you better grab your tickets early before the price goes up or before they’re all gone.
